HELINA is the pan-African Association for Health Informatics. HELINA’s primary purpose is to promote education and research in health informatics and the implementation of ethical, modern and evidence-based health informatics to enhance access to quality and equitable healthcare in Africa. HELINA engages governments, informaticians, clinicians, researchers, patients and citizens in general through national societies to leverage the power of technology through informatics tools, processes and policies that make it easy to achieve health goals (such as Universal Health Coverage). HELINA has 12 affiliated national health informatics societies and several collaborating institutions including universities and research institutions all over sub-Saharan Africa.
HELINA joined Transform Health in 2021 and is represented in both our Policy and Campaign circles. In 2022, HELINA and Transform Health signed a network engagement contract to strengthen advocacy in Sub-Saharan countries. This builds on the work that HELINA is doing in the region, with a specific focus on increasing engagement with political and decision making levels to secure commitments and action to support the digital transformation of health systems and improved governance of data to help accelerate UHC progress.

Transform Health engages in the Francophone West African Region through the collaboration with Speak Up Africa and the Baobab Institute.
The aim is to engage more stakeholders, through advocacy tools and opportunities in the West Africa region with Transform Heath, and to leverage the networks’ knowledge, experience and relationships to influence key audiences to accelerate the sustainable adoption of digital health technologies and data to strengthen PHC and attain UHC by 2030. Speak Up Africa and Baobab Institute already has established connections and trust capital among health leaders in the Francophone West Africa Region and this will be leveraged to catalyse rapid uptake of Digital Health Transformation.
Speak Up Africa joined Transform Health in 2021 and is represented in both our Policy and Campaign circles. In 2022, Speak Up Africa and Transform Health signed a network engagement contract to strengthen advocacy in West and Central African countries. This builds on the work that Speak Up Africa is doing in the region, with a specific focus on increasing engagement with political and decision making levels to secure commitments and action to support the digital transformation of health systems and improved governance of data to help accelerate UHC progress.
Our overarching goal in the region is improved and more equitable governance of health data across countries and regions - through stronger governance models, standards, and legislative and regulatory frameworks - to support the use of digital technologies and data for the health and well-being of all.
